The Mercedes-Benz C-Class is certainly one of the most handsome offerings from the compact saloon market. A redesign in 2015 saw the model grow slightly larger and become far more luxurious.

Rivals include the BMW 3 Series, Audi A4 and Jaguar XE, while more left-field options come in the form of the Lexus IS or Infiniti Q50. However, none of these cars quite manage to mix driving dynamics, technology and comfort quite as well as the car with the three-pointed star.

You’d be forgiven for mistaking the C-Class for the much more expensive S-Class from a distance, move inside and you’ll see more styling cues from the executive luxury car too, not so much to say it’s a copy, but enough that you know this car has design language usually reserved for Mercedes-Benz’ best cars.

The undisputed highlight of the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class, including the AMG models, is its interior. It offers options like a Burmester sound system, new touch-controlled COMAND infotainment system, or the brand’s suite of safety technologies and a cabin which exudes luxury in a way that none of its competitors manage. Everything from leg room to material quality has been considered, giving the impression this car is worth a tonne of money, when actually, used Mercedes-Benz C-Class cars can be very reasonably priced.

Thanks to a ground-up redesign featuring plenty of aluminium, engineers had a larger car, which still weighed less than the previous version to work their magic on. Mercedes can finally claim handling on par with BMW’s 3 Series, although it’s electrically assisted there are few systems that offer better feedback and steering weight. The optional air suspension completely transforms the car, allowing you to soak up potholes in comfort, or carve corners like a pro in sport. It really is a car for all eventualities.
